There's a place to type a search query, but it doesn't work.

Thank you very much for bringing this to our attention. I created a corresponding bug report in our internal issue tracking system.

4 years later .... - why does the search-field in the help for yEd does not accecpt wildcards? It only finds full words (e.g. "Layout"), but no "*ayou*"
