Change layout of only selected items?

Question

I want to apply layout only on the selected items, why does it seems so difficult?

Digging and searching I only found circle layout to have option: Act on selection only

Am I missing something?

Well, yes, it seems you are missing "Layout" -> "Selection (Partial). Aside from that "Layout" -> "Organic" has a "Scope" setting for this purpose (see tab "Visual"). Most edge routing algorithms (see "Layout" -> "Edge Routing") do likewise (however, for "Layout" -> "Edge Routing" -> "Organic" the setting is called "Route Selected Edges Only").
