I'd like to import an excel file into yEd but my software won't even open an excel file... It's not available. I'm using html 2.6 on a Macbook..https://yed.yworks.com/support/qa/?qa=blob&qa_blobid=7135108856581356203

You need to change the file format of the file chooser dialog to "MS Excel 97/2000/XP (*.xls)" or "MS Excel 2007 XML (*.xlsx)" to import data from Excel into yEd.
