Mac OS X - Broken interface

+2 votes
Hi everyone,

I just installed the new version 3.8 and the application doesn't show anything. The editing area (is in "Edit mode") doesn't show anything as well as the palette toolbar on the right side - it's just empty.

Also none of the buttons in the upper menu toolbar is clickable. It seems completly freezed.

For your information:

My system is a MacBook Pro with Mac OS 10.6.8 installed.

I'm looking forward to an answer.

Kind regards

MacBook Pro with Mac OS 10.6.8 installed
JRE 1.6.0_29

Since Version 3.8 this application only runs with an administrator account.

regards,
André
Hi,

my default account has administrator rights and even "sudo" doesn't solve my problem.

Kind regards,
Stephan
My default account is a 'Standard' account that doesn't have administrator rights. However, yEd is installed locally, i.e. not in /Applications.
Hi,

my rights were always sufficient but a broken profile file caused some weird problems. Your suggestion to delete my profile files solved my problem.

Thanks,
Stephan

Edit: Deleting the yEd profile directory /Users/[USERNAME]/Library/yWorks/yEd solves this problem (see the comments below).

What Java version is on your Mac? (You can see the Java version yEd is running on in the Help > About dialog.)

It is possible that the Java installation didn't complete properly, and the Java runtime is corrupted. Maybe a re-install already fixes your problem.

Hi,

my version is 1.6.0_29 (Apple version) and there are no updates available from Apples homepage.

Kind regards,
Stephan
Yes, 1.6.0_29 is the latest Java version available from Apple.

Does deleting the yEd profile directory: /Users/stephan/Library/yWorks/yEd help with the issue? (If you have custom palette section, keep a backup of this directory.)
If your Java installation is OK, then there might be a problem with one of the files from your yEd profile.

yEd 3.8 runs here on Mac OS X 10.6.8 with Java 1.6.0_29 (64bit Core 2 Duo Intel).
Thanks a lot!
That worked for me - it seems that one or more of my profile files were broken.

Kind regards,
Stephan
Thanks!
Deleting the yEd profile directory solve my problem.
