Why are connectors called "edges" in yEd?

I was wondering why connectors are called "edges" in yEd?
Sure, once you know, you know. But why call them "edges" when they're not actually edges of something but rather lines connecting (!) two nodes..?
Or am I missing something?

Thanks for your reply!

The terms "node" and "edge" are due to the graph-theoretical (mathematical) origin of diagrams. See "Glossary of graph theory" (on Wikipedia, for example).
