Exclude groups from layout function

Question

If have some groups that I would just like to use to have the items organized in the structure view. I want to exclude that groups from being considered by the automatic layout function.

why is this considered a duplicate of the "layers" concept? There are plenty of times I would like to keep certain groups as an atomic unit (e.g. don't re-layout the elements within the group) but automatically layout the entire graph including the groups (again, considered as an atomic unit).

My explanation was not really precise and I figured out that what I meant is actually a layer function. So I marked it as "duplicate". What you need is different, so you should open an own Feature Request for your topic.
