How can I draw a box around an SVG

To be able to show a colored status of a node (Red, yellow...), I would like to know if I can draw a box around the node. I looked at using vsx but it will not be convinient and still has many limitations for now.

Any ideas to get this accomplished is appreciated.

Either create multiple variants of your SVG symbols with different borders or use your SVG symbols as node label icons and vary the node border colors.
