can FrameMaker Interchage Format files (MIF extension) be imported?

No, yEd cannot import MIF files. (As far as I know, MIF is a markup language that looks similar to XML but differs in essential points. If you have a tool that can convert MIF to valid XML, you can write a XSLT stylesheet to import the strucutre of your data.)
