Excel Import example not working as documented

The manual's section on Excel spreadsheet imports has an adjacency matrix example as its first example.

I set up a spreadsheet exactly as shown, and I imported it exactly as the settings are shown. And it generated the graph shown -- but without the names of the people in the nodes.

How do I get the import to work so that it shows the names of the people in the nodes?

You can use the settings in the presentation section to specify what data you want to display as label text. The details of these settings are described in the lower part of the article.

The data for the label texts of the example image are the Node IDs.

There is no layout setting that will create the properly aligned placement of the sample image. This is a manual arrangement.
