document the yEd graph created by using graphML format.

Hi everyone,

I genarated one graphML file using scripting language. I used  yEd graph editor to represent in graphical model. It contains lot of nodes and edges between them. How to document this file into some other formats that should contains like each node and its neighborhood nodes only not entire graph. for example I have 100 nodes. documentation should be each node and its neighbors relation and that graphML file info. Is there any way to do that. I am very new to this format and yEd graphs.

for example if i create xsd for an xml file then if you open that with xml file then you can see xsd schema diagram and its documentation for each element like .but I dont know how to document graphML file. can any one help me . any help appriciated.

There is no dedicated documentation feature in yEd. However, you could add a description to each node for that purpose.

To do that in yEd, select a node, then scroll the properties view (in the lower right corner) down to property "Description" in section "Data" and add your documentation text in the corresponding text field. Alternatively, use F6 to open the properties dialog for a selected node, go to tab "Data" and enter the description in the corresponding text area.

To do that in GraphML, add an attribute with name="description" of type="string" and scope for="node" and for each node you want to document, add a corresponding <data><![CDATA[Your documentation here.]]></data>. (Try creating a graph with only one node in yEd, add a description in yEd, and finally save as GraphML to get an example.)

Actually my problem is I have data in xml file format, I am representing that data in two formats one is graph model and another is PDF format. So I used graphML file format to visualize graph model and Latex to genate PDF file. Now I want to include This graph In PDF file. In PDF file I am displaying each node name and its supplier node names and customers to that node. I am displaying each node and its information in one page. Now I want to include graphical connection of each node in the corresponding pdf page. I have graphical representation in yEd graph editor. I tried to export this graph into PDF and include that PDF into my generated PDF using latex. but when I am exporting my yEd graph into PDF , hole graph is exporting into one page so I can't able insert each node graphical connections into corresponding node in PDF file. So I asked is there any way to export each node and its neighbours into pdf file. Or is there any tools.?

Hmm, I am afraid there is no convenient way to achieve what you want to do. The only way I can think of is opening your graph in yEd, then selecting each node in turn, converting each node's neighborhood view to a new graph document (to do that, right-click into the neighborhood context view to open its context menu), and finally exporting each neighborhood document to a suitable format.
