How can I use my icons for nodes

I have not been able to bring icons from my local files into a palette.  After reading the help instructions, I have not been able to work the details.

Step by step instructions would be great.

I have found Pixelformer for building icons.  There are many properties to build icons under.  Are there limitations on the properties that yEd can use?
