trying to show the type of relationship between 2 entities.  For example (1-1, 1-n, m-n,)

I'm not sure how to put in the numbers and letters next to the entities.

To place a given relationship label close to either the source or target node, select the label, go to the properties table in yEd's lower right corner, and choose "6 Pos" as "Placement" model. "6 Pos" supports several positions including two source and two target positions.

If you need several labels for a given relationship, right-click the relationship to open its context menu and choose "Add Label".
