Any ability to highlight edges when selecting a node in desktop version?

0 votes
Hello

My graph can become a bit complex and having the ability to select a node and highlight all the edges can help me better trace the paths to determine how to rearrange everything.

An added bonus would be to also highlight the other nodes connected to the edges.

I know the neighbourhood graph shows this but it is isolated from the whole graph. I will still find it useful to be able to see the entire layout with the nodes and edges highlighted.

Is there a way to configure the settings to get this visualisation?

You can try "Tools" -> "Select Elements". On tab "General", be sure to have only "Clear Selection First" or no option at all selected. Then select option "Use These Criteria" on tab "Edges" and set option "Select" to "Selected Nodes".

The downside of this approach is that your previously selected nodes will not be selected anymore, but the connected edges will be.

Thanks Thomas. It worked once and highlighted the edges. It did not work for the next node I selected.

I noticed that if I deselect "clear selection first" it will work once again. And if I toggle it back on it works once. Not sure why that is  happening.

The function is not remaining active so I can select different nodes and see their edges highlighted.
Can you explain your workflow in more detail? Can you post screenshots of your "Select Elements" configuration?

For me, selecting a node, then using the "Select Elements" tool in the above way, then selecting a node again, and using the "Select Elements" tool again works as many times as I care to check which edges are connected to a given node.
Hi Thomas. You are correct. I misunderstood how to use the tool in your first response. I did not realise I had to select the tool each time I wanted to view the edges as I thought once I configured it then the edges will always be highlighted whenever I select a node and could do this multiple times.

A minor extra step but not too inconvenient. Thanks so much for the extra clarity.
