Can yed be embedded in an application?

Instead of reinventing the wheel, it would be nice to be able to embed yed in a software application, either heavy or light. This requires an API or a file format to exchange data between yed and the application.

No, yEd cannot be embedded into a software application. Indeed, the yEd software license agreement explicitly forbids this:

The Software may not be used as part of an automated process.

Still, you do not need to "re-invent the wheel" if you need an diagram editing component in your custom application. Instead, you can incorporate the yFiles diagramming library into your application for this purpose.
