Nodes are staying nameless after data import from Excel file

Question

I am trying to import a Node List from an Excel document using this guide but whatever I do my data always goes into additional property lines.

How can I make one of the columnes be recognized as the Node Name assigner?

There are two possibilites, both are mentioned in the section about the 'Settings in Section Presentation':

• select the column that contains the data for the labels in the 'Label Text' combo box of the Presentation tab of the dialog
• use the tool Properties Mapper to assign any data to label text

Sorry for that. This is not intuitive to me yet, so sometimes I unintentionally end up ignoring some things.

I’ve managed to create a node group with causal relations (Adjacency Matrix) and simultaneously import additional properties for them (Node List) to map them later to default data types like URL, but there are some questions left, if you don’t mind:

1. If I import a column matrix (m×1), can I make the arrows lead from the only column to all the rows to avoid the Reverse Selection Edges step later on?

2. When I’m assigning an optional property to default URL field using Properties Mapper, URLs come out in relative format (e.g. .../Desktop/website.com instead of website.com). What am I doing wrong?

3. Can I import additional properties for nodes and edges of an already existing Yed file?

No need to apologize, I just wanted to point out that you can find information about this problem in the help, too. Sorry if I sounded harsh. Please feel free to post any questions you have in this forum.

1. If I understand this question correctly, you want the edges created in the opposite direction? This is not possible. However, it's possible to draw any arrow at any end of the edge (or even at both ends) but since this doesn't change the internal interpretation of the edge, I discourage from using this to make the edges appear to be directed in the opposite direction since this can be very confusing when using features like automatic layout.

2. URLs with a protocol prefix are considered absolute, e.g. you can use http://website.com. Some more details are described here:

3. Unfortunately, this is not supported and I have no idea how to work around this limitation.

I'm glad to hear it worked.

One more tip: you can use the automatic 'Label Placement' feature (in the Layout menu) to get a better label placement. This changes only the location of the labels, but not the positions of nodes or the routes of connections. Some of the layout algorithms have an option to active automatic label placement, too.
