I found the answer to my question

I just posted a question about graphic objects that disappeared.

My question referred to only a few of the many many objects on my graph that were showing - where did the others go?

I by chance, opened the Structure View and saw there were many more levels to the structure than should have been and all my missing objects were buried in that structure.

Moving those levels of objects under the Graph root object made them all visible!  I'm guessing the software 'burped' somehow or I fat-fingered an unintended change, but my graph is all recovered!  Whew!!!!
