Opening Files

0 votes
I don't want to sound entirely naive, but having gotten started with Yed and having saved my first files, why won't they open?  The only way I can open them is from the recent documents menu and once recent documents is emptied by regular spring cleaning, the program can't seem to find them.  They are howver, still there in the folder they were saved to.

Do I need to buy a licence or something to be able open saved files?

No, you do not need to buy a license for yEd to open previously saved files.

Please tell me what file ending did you use to save your diagrams? *.graphml? *.graphmlz?

Maybe you have chosen an inappropriate file filter for opening files? I.e. the default file filter only display files ending with ".graphml":

It is possible to change that to e.g. display all files:

Note, the "All Files" also displays files that cannot be opened using yEd (such as "test3.pdf" in the screenshot above).

Thanks Thomas.  Two things went wrong for me.  Firstly, I expected the defaults to deal with such a question, and two I did anticipate a suffix with more than three characters.

In the end, I discovered, thanks to your prompt, that the filter stays as the last format chosen.  Thus 'All Files' showed everything and stayed a the default opening choice.  When I selected 'graphml' it stayed that way and opens all my saved graph files.

Thanks for the help.
