I would like to see a print feature whereby I can mark an area to print and say to print the selected.

You could use yEd's area zoom ("View" -> "Area Zoom" or the 10th button from the right in yEd's tool bar) together with "Clip Area" set to "View Only" in yEd's print options to achive the desired behavior.
