Installation on windows 10 leads to java.lang.NullPointerException error

0 votes

Hello,

I just tried to intall yEd (Version 3.18.0.2 without JRE) on my Windows 10 laptop which has Java 1.8.0_161 in both 32 and 64 bit on it. But after the install4j Wizard has obtained the right to use the harddrive, there is a long time where there is no progress before eventually

"An error occurred:

java.lang.NullPointerException

Error log: (location)"

pops up and following the installation along I finally get a message, that I have no write permission for th directory while chosing a destinsation directory (I am using an Administrator profile and no path works). The same happens wether I use yEd 32bit or 64bit.

Can anybody help me or is installation just not possible?

The error log for a 64 bit try:

Exception:

According to I get install4jError messages with a lot of java stuff, installing on Win10 64b running the installer with administrator rights right from the start should work.

Aside from that, people running BitDefender anti-virus software seem to have been experiencing similar problems (albeit with other applications). Are you running an anti-virus software that might be messing with yEd installation?

Thank you very much, after deactivating everything possible in Bitdevender, not just the modules Firewall, advance thread defense, antispam, vulnerability and save files, I was abel to install without any further problems.
