How to present a graph (flowchart, argument map or IBIS)?

0 votes

We create a complex graph (flowchart, argument map or IBIS) with the aim to present it to a client, judge, or students...

In such a presentation, we typically take up different paths of the graph and talk about them.

AFAIK yEd does not have features that can help during such presentation.

Here are some ideas:

  1. We should be able to select (or hover on-) a node, and yEd should automatically emphasize all the nodes connected to it.

The rest of the graph should be faded out, or hidden altogether, depending on the program setting (let the user select this option).

  2. Initially, only the selected node is highlighted. But the user can roll the mousewheel to increase the number of links to highlight.

Currently we can selct a part of the graph and use the convert to document option in the successors/predecessor panel. But that is not the same thing, as the original shape of the whole graph is lost.

Well, it may not be as convenient as your suggested feature, but "Tools" -> "Select Elements" may already be used to select all nodes that are connected to the currently selected node (up to a certain graph distance). To do that, disable all options on tab "General", enable "Use These Criteria" for tab "Nodes" and said tab only, choose "Neighbors" for option "Select" and set the desired graph distance for "Maximal Path Distance" on tab "Nodes".

Thanks for the workaround, but that would be seen as too much fumbling by the client or judge, and would not create a good impression. So can you please add this as a suggested feature? Thanks in advance!

Oh and congratulations on crossing the 100 thousand points!
