yEd draws without captions and arrow heads

Question

Suddenly (after updating yEd, and XCode) yEd doesn't display the captions of nodes, or arrow heads of edges anymore. While drawing edges, arrow heads are still displayed, but they disappear as soon as they are ready.

This affects both existing files as completely new ones.

Going back to 3.9.1 did not cure the issue, new start didn't help either. OS X 10.7.4 on 4GB MacBook Pro.

What Java version are you using to run yEd (see Help > About)?

Additional detail:
All is fine in both print and full screen mode, text is displayed while editing, and the resize dots are neither working nor displayed as well.

Are you sure that the resize dots (aka "hotspots" in the yEd manual) are not working? My guess would have been that, although you cannot see the resize dots, you can still resize your nodes...

Anyway, my advice would be to check the "Paint Details Threshold" setting in the File > Preferences... dialog (5th on the "Display" tab) and reset it to its default value of "0.0". This should do the trick.

However, there is a bug: I was suspecting that I messed up a setting, so I have set back the Preferences using the „reset“ button in the Prefs dialog.

Now comes the bug: Reset sets Paint Detail Threshold to 0.3, which leads exactly to the symptoms I have described!

Thomas is mistaken, 0.3 *is* the default for "Paint Details Threshold". So, reset works as expected.

So, are you saying that with a value of 0.3 for "Paint Details Threshold" you are seeing these issues (no arrowheads, no node labels, no hotspots)?

Yes. With 0.3 - which might be the reset value - painting is incomplete. With 0, everything is fine.

Could it be that your graph is simply so big that your zoom level is below 0.3? E.g. try clicking the magnifier icon labeled "1:1" in yEd's tool bar to reset the zoom level to 1.0 and arrows, texts, etc should reappear.

Indeed... which also explains that this has never been an issue on our big screen iMacs...
So, that 0.3 basically means: Drop details under a zoom level of 0.3?
