Not all edge types support bridges. Essentially, all the poly-line styles support bridges while arcs, bezier curves, quadratic curves, splines, and framed styles do not. In other words, the "Edge Types" palette section has styles that do not support bridges, but all others do:
The edge styles which are named and colored in red do not support bridges.
