How do I sent to the parents in a family tree?

0 votes
I'm using yEd version 3.14.2 on a Windows 7 64-bit operating system.  I would like my family tree to resemble the example given in the help menu.

  1. Start by deciding on three colors for nodes - one for females, one for males, and  one for families. By default, yEd uses mauve (#CCCCFF) for females, a shade of orange-rose (#FFCC99) for males, and black for families.
  2. Create a female node and a male node for the parents.
  3. Create a family node.
  4. Connect the male node to the family node.
  5. Connect the female node to the family node.
  6. Create female/male nodes for the children.
  7. Connect the family node to each child.
  8. Run the family tree layout algorithm ("Layout" -> "Family Tree"). Make sure to set the appropriate colors for family/female/male nodes in the Family Tree Layout settings.

Since you are the only one that has answered, yours is the best.

Thank you for answering, but your answer is incomplete.  I asked that the result looked like the example given in the program.

In that example the parents are centered on the line that points to the children.

If you can help me with that I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you very much for clarifying what you are trying to achieve.

It seems you have come across a regression in the family tree layout algorithm - it is no longer able to center parents above children. We are currently investigating this error and hope to be able to fix this problem for a future version of yEd.
