Layers (implemented as Groups) are not respected in SVG output

0 votes

I have worked out with some help from the forums that we are able to split drawings effectively into layers by grouping nodes in the Structure panel.

This is very useful but I would like to raise two suggestions...

1) I cannot see any way to switch the visibility of my 'layers' on and off within the editing screen. Not hugely important but a pretty standard expectation of any drawing software that I have used.

2) Much more important - in fact quite a deal-breaker - is that fact that my layers (my Groups) are not wrapped up as layers within the exported SVG. This is a crucial requirement when it comes to wanting to animate because very often when animating an SVG, we will want to show/hide the various layers?

Have I got this wrong and is there perhaps some setting somewhere to enable this that I have missed?

Thank you in advance and thank you again for this brilliant free software; 'though as an educator I would be happy to pay towards it!

No, you did not get anything wrong. yEd does not provide an option to export "layered" SVG  documents.

There is a long-standing feature request for Layers (similar Dia or Visio layer). It has some (cumbersome) suggestions for simulating layers in yEd.
