I am using yEd v3.20.1 an it seems the default path is still wrong in the save-as diaglog.

When I try to save-as a file, the default (initial) folder path in the Save As dialog is the folder where any other file was last saved with yed. This is VERY annoying.

Lets assume that I was working with a file stored in D:/docs/project1/topic1/systemdiagram1.graphml. So I saved this when I finished working with it.

Then I open another file from D:/docs/project2/topic3/processdiagram1.graphml. I want to save this as graph as processdiagram2. It will open up the save as diaglog pointing to the earlier folder, D:/docs/project1/topic1/... I just rename the file as desired and hit save.

Probably I will have a hard time when I will want to find this again, since it is in a wrong folder!

The "Select Element" function does work, but is cumbersome for everyday work. Would be very usefull if the searchbox would work "infix" too, should be an easy fix right?

I am importing a huge BPM (broken into node and edgelist in excel)

It consists of many individual processes which not all are linked together in one network, but rather many networks.

Is it possible in Yed to isolate the various networks? Or do I have to do that in excel before importing the data?

As of yEd 3.14, it is possible to adjust the maximum number of nodes and edges to be displayed in context views. To do so, go to "File" -> "Preferences", tab "Display" and adjust settings "Maximum Number of Nodes in Context Views" and "Maximum Number of Edges in Context Views".

As of yEd 3.13 (which has been released yesterday), yEd tries the following scripts/browsers for opening websites: xdg-open, gnome-open, kde-open, gnome-www-browser, x-www-browser, firefox, google-chrome, opera, konqueror, epiphany (in that order). Due to the addition of the xxx-open and xxx-www-browser scripts, yEd should now launch the system default browser on most Linux distributions.

You can already do this with edge labels. Each edge can have an arbitrary number of edge labels, and with the placement properties, you can even specify that the multiplicity labels should stay near the start and end of an edge then you move the nodes. Here is a small sample graph: edge-with-multiplicity

Once you have created an edge with labels that fits your needs, you can use it as template for edge creation. To do this, create a new palette section, add the edge to that section with the right-click menu of the edge, and mark it as default for new edges by double-clicking its icon in the palette.

I'm using yEd and it's really awesome, never seen something cool like that.

But today I've noticed some strange behavior.

For example the navigation mode, do you really need this?

I think, pressing the space key to move around the view will be user friendlier and more effective while using your software. There is a similar function in Photoshop.

The Zoom is really confusing too. If you scroll with your mouse wheel, the perspective zooms in or out. A normal user awaits a scroll function to scroll up and down and if you press shift and using the mouse wheel it should zoom.

It will be easier to learn how your software can be used, if you implement user familiar functionallity =)

I don't want to order how you should programm your software.

Just want to ask what do you think about my ideas.

Hi,

I also need this feature so I decided to throw together a quick and dirty Ruby script to keep me going until the feature is available natively. This is not very well tested but it is working for me so far. This is pre-alpha level test code, but I thought it was worth posting in case anyone else finds it useful.

The basic approach I have taken is to convert an xls file to gml format which can then be imported to yEd.

As pointed out below by sschweizer, the yEd setup program can be used without admin rights since version 3.9.

Of course, the user must have write permission for the target folder of the installation, for example, it's typically not possible to install yEd in 'C:\Programs' without these rights.

Enhance Excel import with grouping function

Could you enhance import so, that i could import grouping information as well?
I.e. no edges as such, but functions A, B, C belong inside group CRM and D,E into Email, F, G, H, I belong to eCommerce platform etc. So, i want to map things like tasks to applications, business processes to applications or corporate functions etc

Since yEd 3.9, symbols of all Events, Gateways, and Activity Markers are included. Additionally, there are Swimlanes and symbols of some of the Activities and Data Types.

We are currently working on including support for decorations of Activity nodes (i.e. marker and task type icons) as well as Data nodes (collection, input, and output icons).
