Could you please point me to some valid examples of XML snippets for yEd custom properties (XML type)? I have looked and looked and can't find anything.

See "Help" -> "Example Graphs" -> "Custom Properties" -> "custom_properties.graphmlz". This document has an XML property associated to the diagram/graph.
