Collapse edges as well as groups

Question

I like to be able to "minimize" the view of just one group, but the feature is not so useful as it does not also reduce the number of edges appearing.

While edges are not collapsed when closing a group, an option for adopting the open group's label text to the closed group's label does exist - please see "File" -> "Preferences", tab "Editor", option "Synchronize Open and Closed Group Label".

Unfortunately, no. You will have to manually increase the size of the closed group. I have added this shortcoming to our list of possible improvements for yEd, though.
