Is there a "group" function that isn't visual, and locks objects together?

Is there a way to "Group" objects like in Visio such that:

a) the group is transparent visually (as soon as the group is created, not after having to go and adjust lots of properties on a group)

b) it is not possible to select one item from the group afterwards individually, i.e. the object act as a single overall object

I am getting an error when opening an external file. The FAQ says to fix it by hand. Is there a way to tell the line number of the file that yED thinks there is a problem? excel can open the file. Thank you.

Selection box inside a node

I find it quite annoying that it seems not to be possible to draw a selection box around nodes that lie within another node (visually speaking). As I see it, a selection box always has to begin on an empty canvas... Hope my point is clear.

Hi,

I am facing the problem that - by default - yEd produces a thin light gray frame around the graph itself. How can that frame be disabled?

Edit: SOLVED, I accidently misinterpreted yEd's markings for the page's margins in the print preview as a framing that would actually be printed - which it is not.

TouchDraw is a vector drawing app for iPad; it can export SVG and Visio files, but I am unable to read these into yEd. Is there something specific that prevents SVG files from being imported into yEd? I can provide an example file if requested.

edit in more than one properties window, with a different lay-out

A lot of the work I do involves editing "General->Text" and "Data->Description". There is a fair amount of copy-pasting between nodes involved. Unfortunately I can only edit the Text and Descriptions of one node at a time. Would it be possible to open properties windows (F6) for more than one node.

While I am at it: could the lay-out of the properties window be changed? Now everytime I click on another node, the window size and focussed tab is reset. I would e.g. like a larger editing area for "Description" and keep the focus on the "Data" tab.

properties mapper seems not to work in "view group content"

I defined a custom property and use the properties mapper to change the color of nodes depending on the value of the custom property.

This works when I view the whole graph. If, however, some nodes are grouped, the properties mapper has no effect when I use it in the group content view. If I go back to the whole graph, the properties mapper works again.

is it possible to define a property for a given symbol / container (e.g. in flow charts : predefined process), which allows by doble-cllicking to open a new file. The idea is of modularizing a graph, i.e. having one block visible, which contains multiple references. (e.g. modelling packages etc.)

I am trying toprint a flowchart on letter sheet / landscape. It either prints half of the document ( prints the bottom rows of flowchart on the top of the page printed) or prints the entire flowchart reduced down to about half page on the right half of the page.

Can't open a file in 3.9.2 which I just installed on my Mac OSX, also won't open with 3.9.2 on my PC with Windows 7.

Drop-shadows can leave line artifacts when exported

I created a drawing with a few "modern style" boxes (the rounded-corner "shiny plate node with shadow") overlapping.

It looks okay in yEd, but when exported to an SVG (and worse, PDF), some kind of guidelines are visible in the drop shadows.

The SVG looks okay in Inkscape, but when I include it in a PDF document (created with LyX), the lines become visible.

Exporting a PDF directly from yEd causes very obvious artifacts when opened with Foxit Reader or Sumatra PDF (for some reason, Adobe Reader isn't installed on this PC so I can't test that). The mysterious drop-shadow guidelines (2 per shadow) are visible, and the shading on the upper-left part of the "shiny plate" modern nodes is broken.

Hi,

I am having difficulty getting the right graph from my imported excel spreadsheet data. The table I am importing is very simple.

A	B	C
B	A	C
C	A	B

The first column consists of my nodes' IDs. The next two columns consists of "choices of partners" the given nodes make. So, A picked B and C, B picked A and C, and so on.

My problem is the following: when I import datas similar to these, the graph I get is wrong. My edges don't connect the 2 right nodes. I found that they never create a "mutual" connection. So if node A picked node B, and node B picked node A in return, my graph is not going to show this mutual relation between them. Instead, it shows B looping around and connecting back to itself. How can I fix this issue in order to have correcponding graphs that shows "mutual" connection between two nodes when necessary.

I have a graph that shows connections in a community. The graph grows over time, i.e., new nodes and new connections are added to it month by month. However, it seems I can't easily show what was added to the graph during April, for example.

Is there a way of timestamping the graph elements and then choosing to only

The feature I'm looking for is a custom output format where I can design the class names, output directories, and property/method syntax for a specific language in order to create the classes in the language I work in. Being able to use this tool for the code generation would greatly assist me in outputting the large amounts of classes and tests I need to write as the application develops.

Exported html flash to expand/collapse groups

Hi.

I'm new in this great tool, I'm exporting a diagram with groups, in the editor I can expand or collapse the group to see/hide its content, but exported file (html flash) do not show the sign -/+ to let me click on it to see/hide the group content.

I also try to do it with included Grouping examples, but it didn't work.

I has been looking for it in the forum and google but I was not able to find how to do it, if this is some attribute or configuration that must be applied to get it works. Also i have try exporting as HtmlImagemap.

I have a tree with four layers. There is one root node.

So this looks in Excel like:

I have a BPMN with three subprocesses which are functional completely equal. Only the data sources used are different (named).

When I use the automatic layout for BPMN in the modus "Complete Layout"/"Left to Right" the two of the three subprocesses are modeled the same and the other subprocess look very different then the others.

By the way: If I use the modus "Use drawing as scetch"/"Left to Right" all subprocesses look pretty the same.

Why uses the layout engine different models to draw the subprocesses?

In the attached ZIP you can find two GRAPHML files: "automatic_layout_problem_01.graphml" shows the starting position and "automatic_layout_problem_02.graphml" shows the result after automatic layout in "Complete Layout"/"Left to Right" mode.

No resize of a lane when node is moved just to (or across) its border

Hello!

If a pool with two (or more) lanes is defined, a node placed in one lane is not bound to the lane so if you move the node outside the boundary of the lane it will not be extended (as like the pool is extended if you move a node (or a lane) just to its boundary.

Can anyone help?

I attached two GRAPHML-files (in a ZIP) to this article, so you can see what i mean. The first file "lane_problem_01_graphml" shows the starting position and the other file "lane_problem_02_graphml" the result after moving the activity acros the boundary of lane 1.

If one wishes to import yEd to Visio one needs to export as SVG, then open in LibreOffice to Export as Windows Metafile Format (WMF) before being able to (somewhat) successfully import and edit in Visio, though it does still need to be be re-drawn. However with this part-workaround it is possible to edit the text once the diagram has been ungrouped.

Currently when I save to PDF, it saves in portrait layout. I need to save the graph I created in Landscape.

Need to be added bpmn elements into yEd Graphics Editor

Dear yWorks Support, I have been working on modeling of BPMN using yEd Graphic editor. I have updated my system with the recent yEd-3.9.1_setup.sh. Even in this recent version the following list of BPMN elements have been missed. The missed element list is namely,

Embedded Sub-process
Reusable Sub-process
Choreography

yEd via command line?

Hi.

I cannot find a way to run an yEd session via command line, neither in yEd help....

I'd like to use a .bat (windows batch) ) to run yEd, with a excel file as input, load a "properties mapping" schema, generate a graph, then save it.

Custom Properties - Edge List Excel import data

1. I would like to create or manage custom properties like mentioned in one of your example in help by going to
Help---> Example Graphs---> Custom Properties--->travel_durations.graphmlz

I looked at the example to do similar one with my imported excel file using edgelist and the data does not show along the lines as shown in example, as the example file is not very information on how the structure was created as input to add or import the label along the lines

I am trying to do a similar thing, the idea is I have information on the Parents percentage ownership of the child nodes I want to add that labels in the graph, I have the data in the excel file as a column and how do I add it in the plot using custom properties, if I missed something I apologize as I am new to the tool and network visualizations itself...

I think you are telling me that if I were to make everything teeny tiny on my yEd screen then I could blow it up for a big piece of paper. There must be a better way.

Can the default settings for the export be saved?

I would like the ability to change and set my own defaults for an export so that I do not have to go through the setup each time. I export the drawings to pdf regularly so that it can be distributed. The settings don't change for the session once I have made all of my selections. However, the next time I open up a drawing, the pdf format is selected but the other settings have reverted to the original defaults.
