There is a feature request for the opposite transformation, too: http://yed.yworks.com/support/qa/712/
Extremely useful when drawing functional block diagrams of electronic devices for representing sophisticated signal routing grids. Looking forward to see this implemented.

Hi Thomas
You noted the feature is supported but I can't figure out how to use it.
I'm at the point in my graph where it is more efficient to be able to split the edge with the node rather than delete the edge and connect two new ones.
Can you tell me how to use it?
Drag a node from yEd's palette and drop it onto the edge you want to split. That's it.
Thanks so much Thomas. I see my error. I was copying/pasting a node on the diagram and moving it onto the edge and nothing happened.

I got so excited when I dragged it from the palette and it split the edge. Perfectly simple. Thanks so much.
You are welcome.

I should have added a description that explains how this works to the original answer. I am sorry. I do not know what I thought back then how people would know what to do.
